What’s Next with Health Care Reform?
A question that remains on the table! With the unraveling of efforts in the Republican caucus to coalesce around the American Health Care Act last week, House leadership and the Trump administration continue to weigh their options. On one hand, we hear that House Republicans remain committed to working with one another. There is chatter on the Hill that Republican moderates and conservatives are trying to seek common ground so that a vote can be held next week, ahead of the spring recess. On the other hand, the president has signaled interest in moving on as well as working with Democrats to “fix the current system,” holding the House Freedom Caucus members (the conservative wing of the Republican party) accountable for last week’s failed efforts. Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) opposes the idea of the administration working with the Democrats.
